Sometimes I just want to change my profile photo and not get any likes. I know that comment might make me strange but it’s true….
Last night I was scrolling through Facebook in bed (as you do) and I looked at my profile photo and had a sudden urge to change it.
It’s not that my current one wasn’t an okay choice or that I’d taken any really nice selfie’s or photos in the past few days (or – let’s be honest – weeks/months) but regardless I wanted to change it.
BUT what I didn’t want was for anyone to be able to see I had. I didn’t want a giant picture of my mug to come up on everyone’s nightly newsfeed.
! “Ali has changed her profile picture” !
A statement. Like I’d won an award or done something actually noteworthy.
What does it matter if any of my 419 closest friends like my new choice of profile? It didn’t. Because sometimes you don’t want that forced opinion or validation.
Is it really that strange to want to be able to change something and not have people comment on it – whether in life or on social media. I mean think about it really, when did other people’s opinion on our clothes, hair, outfit or cafe choice become part of our daily thoughts and considerations?
Just one time I would like to be able to change my photo without thinking along the lines of “oh that one didn’t get as many likes as last time maybe I look terrible.” ect, ect.
I want the ability to disable the likes button.
I changed my profile picture anyway and you know what, I didn’t look as good as I did in the one before it. It also did’t get very many likes – but I’m okay with it.
What do you think of a disable likes option?
